I was strolling through GFY (an industry board – if you don’t know it then you’re not in the industry) the other day when I ran into a thread where someone was asking for input on their new site. I looked and wasn’t impressed. Not because the site was poorly done but because the content appeared to be composed of minors. Now, consider that I know the game. So for me to think that these girls are under age is no vote of confidence for your site, however if that’s your target I suppose he nailed it. Which was the case because the website was feeding the 18 market. In his defense he hasn’t done anything wrong – the content came from sponsors who all have the proper 2257′s needed.
Still, I commented on the thread:
“I don’t like to see children when I hit a porn site.
That’s just me though.”
I was simply voicing my opinion on the appearance of the content, and not stating that the content was in face children. Had I honestly believed the content WAS children I would have taken every step I could think of to make sure the site went offline.
The owner did his due diligence and monitored his thread and replied to me:
“hmm which sponsor on my site is providing pictures of children to promote their sites?”
I didn’t reply that day so he found me on an IM and we had a short conversation. After which I decided to post another comment to the thread where I explained myself a little further. I make this post to my website because I anticipate at least one hit from GFY to see who the hell this Lance character is.
Let me clarify myself openly so anyone who might care understands my point of view.
What struck me is that those girls mostly all appear to be under 18.
I know the regs, and the proceedures that sites have, and all that shit – I am one of the founders of XTube – It was (one of my jobs) to remove all the minors pedophiles put on the site.I know that the teen market is very popular,
I know that the girls in sponsor content are over 18.The problem I have is that they’re made up to look so young that the content now can easily appeal to the pedophile, while at the same time placing the idea into the minds of others, that young girls look so good. Putting the concept in front of the user opens the door to a path that I don’t agree with.
I would ban users from XTube because they attracted pedophile-type members or made comments that tasted like pedophiles’. Users have actually told me that they enjoy child porn and that their friends do too, so why take something away from them if they all enjoy it. They tried to convince me that it was a good business move to put the content people want online, regardless. If you’re blasé about the child porn issue, then I would suggest that you’ve not seen any of it, because if you had you would solidify your stance. It is not as simple as some dumb teen girl snapping her tits in the bathroom with her iPhone.
According to the regs, it is illegal to imply that there are minors depicted, without actually involving minors, But the problem with that is the implication is text. So you cannot write that the girls look under 18 or that they are under 18, but what you CAN do is dress them up like they’re 14 and then say they’re all 18+. Then you’re golden. Then the pedophile user is happy and the regs are met and the conversions take place.
On the surface it’s all roses but what do people take away from it?
I see it as a vote FOR something.
Every dollar you spend is a vote for what you’re buying.
Every time you click your mouse, you’re voting for the thing you clicked on.
ALSO
Every time you acquiesce you’re voting for it to continue, to develop.:2 cents:
